Dana Elaine Owens, better known as Queen Latifah in the United States is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper as well as a singer. Queen Latifah is an Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr., a policeman and Rita, a teacher in Irvington High School. Her parents divorced in the year Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic school in Newark New Jersey and was raised through the Baptist Church. Latifah was her stage name at the time she turned eight. It means very sensitive in Arabic. Always tall, her height of 5'10 inches Latifah was a power forward on her high school basketball team. She performed the number"Home" from the show The Wiz in a high school performance. Latifah was part of Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her career in beatboxing. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of a team of MCs and DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded the rap of Queen Latifah, aka Princess of the Posse. Then he gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the tune. It was signed by Latifah and then released her first single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
