Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name given to Winona Laura Hoowitz who was birthed in Winona Minnesota. Her parents, Winona Ryder's parents, gave her the name of the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors and editors. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria who is half-sister to Jubal & Sunyata. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County, California when she was seven years old. There was no electricity. Ryder became an avid read because they had no TV. Ryder was enrolled in acting classes when Ryder was 12, and was enrolled in classes at the American Conservatory Theatre. Ryder landed her first film role on the big screen in 1986, at the age of 15 old. Ryder experienced bullying at high school. Her thought was that by becoming an actor, her bullying was going to be corrected. However, that didn't happen. But that didn't stop her making plans for her future. In 1988, it was in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that gave her her first big break. Ryder had a successful role in numerous films. In 1993, Ryder was in the running twice for Academy Awards.
